My daughter, who is trying to learn how to cook, asked me how to cook a pot roast. To me it is one of the most simplest meals you can throw together, but to her she had no clue where to start. I thought to myself maybe there are others out there just like her. After cooking for over 40 years you take for granite some of the basics you have learned and do just out of habit. So I put together a tutorial with her on how to cook a pot roast. I hope for you who are just starting appreciate my daughters steps. She was so proud of her first roast.
Season roast with steak seasoning. Heat oil up on medium high heat and place roast in skillet.
Brown on both sides
Place roast in roasting pan or dutch oven and layer vegetables, I usually start with the celery and carrots they need more time in the juice to cook.. Pour broth over vegetables and place in oven, cook for about 2-3 hours at 300 degrees.
She did fantastic!! Now lets eat!

2 cups - Baby Carrots
4 stalks - Celery, cut into 3" pieces
1 - Sweet Onion, sliced
6 - Red Potatoes, quartered
1 quart - Baby Portabella Mushrooms

Season roast on both sides. On medium high heat, place olive oil in pan and brown roast on both sides, about 2 minutes on each side.
