May Day Baskets - Easy Life Meal & Party PlanningTomorrow is May Day and coincidentally I had my granddaughter and her best friend at my house today so we had a fun time making May Day Baskets. For me it was a  little walk down memory lane because my kids and I use to make May Baskets every year until it was no longer the "cool" thing to be caught doing. In all honesty, I don't know if anyone shares May Baskets anymore but it is a fun activity for kids. The reason I am a fan is it teaches kids the value of giving of their time and giving to others.


I wasn't focused on documenting the process since they were video taping their "Easy as Pie Cooking and Craft" show but I did get a few snapshots in. They turned out really cute so I thought I would share:

Supplies Needed

Large square craft foam pads
Snack bags with ties
Nylon craft string
Double-sided
Popcorn and other snack items (we used miniature chocolate candy, suckers, chocolate covered pretzels and caramel popcorn)
Stickers plain or foam (we used both)
Stapler
Paper punch (I used a leather punch)

Directions

Roll foam pads at an angle (like a snow cone)
Staple the bottom of the basket
Use double-sided tape to seal seam of basket
Punch wholes 1 to 1 1/2 inches down from the sides that are most even.

Pull string through hole and tie off on the inside.
Decorate baskets with stickers
Fill snack bags with popcorn and tie closed to keep fresh
Sprinkle candies and suckers on top of popcorn
