The Ultimate Strawberry Shortcake

This shortcake recipe has been a family tradition and well worth putting it on your baking bucket list. It really is the ultimate shortcake for strawberries.
This is a dense cake which tastes wonderful combined with the fruity taste of sweetened strawberries and light whipped cream.
A perfect refreshing summer dessert. It is so quick and easy to make. Hence it's name Busy Day Cake - a very old recipe from my 1976 Better Homes & Garden cookbook.
You cannot take "shortcuts" when it comes to strawberry shortcake! No prepackaged shortcakes found in the strawberry isle. It just isn't the same experience.

Scrumptious Peach Pie
Life doesn't get much better than eating a slice of this scrumptious peach pie packed with fresh sweet peaches and encased in a flaky pie crust sprinkled with sugar. I always look forward to peach season and buying fresh Missouri Peaches at the farmer's market. The minute I get home from the market it is pie baking time!! One for me and one for my oldest daughter. Peach Pie is pretty much a tie with my favorite Blackberry Pie. If someone put both of them in front of me well I would have to eat both of them - I could never choose one over the other.

Fun Football Team Color-Themed Gourmet Brownies
I made these fun football team color-themed gourmet brownies for yesterday's Iowa's arrch rival football game - Iowa State vs. Iowa. Everyone loves this game and Iowans are fiercely devoted to one or the other. If you are not at the game then you are no doubt at a party. My daughter hosted the party this year so my contribution were these fun color-themed brownies. They were a huge hit with everyone!Iowa State's colors are Red & White and the Iowa Hawkeye's are Black & Gold. The brownies are topped with ganache frosting, M&M's, mini chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, sprinkles, pearl candies and topped with a drizzle of candy melts.
I make these brownies all the time for showers, birthday parties and holidays. They are really striking and so much fun to make since you can be as creative as you want.
For a peek at my Christmas gourmet brownies and the frosting and brownie recipe see my post Every Day Should Be National Brownie Day - The Very Best Brownies

Irresistible Blackberry Pie

Sweet blackberries encased in a flaky golden pie crust. An irresistible recipe handed down from my mother who is a phenomenal pie baker.
Every summer I spend a whole weekend searching the farm for blackberries and gathering as many as possible to make blackberry pies throughout the year.

Cognac Glazed Fig Dessert
My husband grew up in Florida, yes you can call him a Cracker, and he always raved about his Grandmother's Fig Preserves. So we thought why not plant a fig tree. We planted the tree and it started producing right away. Now what? The only thing I know about figs is that they are in Newtons, but my husband insist they are sweet and make great preserves. Well, I was not in the mood to make a jam so I came up with this very yummy dessert.

The Very Best Creamy Chocolate Fudge Sauce & French Vanilla Ice Cream
Who can resist a creamy chocolate fudge sauce on homemade vanilla ice cream? In celebration of ice cream month you really must try this recipe on some homemade or store bought vanilla ice cream. It really is to die for and worth every second you spend making it!I am not kidding when I say this is the "very best" cream chocolate fudge sauce because it really is. I love this recipe which is written on a scrap of paper and is so old the ink is fading!

5 Minute Angel Food Peach Delight
Sometimes when you are in a pinch for time you just need a quick dessert and today was one of those times. I didn't have the ingredients on hand for any receipe that would be easy and good. Not to be stopped, I decided to search my cupboards and refrigerator for ideas. What I did have was a store bought angel food cake, a can of peach pie filling and whip cream.Saturday, April 13, 2013
Faux Vanilla Almond Creme Fraiche over Brownies and Strawberries
My sister made the most chewy, gooey brownies which set off my sweet tooth. This time of year its Florida’s Strawberry season and the thought of brownies and strawberries topped with some crème fraiche just made me twitch. We had the brownies and strawberries, but no ingredients to make creme fraiche. So I put together what I had in the frig and it was delicious.Sunday, December 9, 2012
